Normal Probability Curve Demonstration Apparatus

This apparatus demonstrates how the normal probability curve arises. It has a board with rows of nails, a hole that lets through one tablet at a time, a sliding strip worked by a knob, and a drawer divided into thirteen compartments, which together span six standard deviations of the normal curve. As tablets fall through the nails and collect in the drawer, the heaps take on the familiar bell shape.
