If you measure human behaviour, you need to understand measurement.
Psychometrics provides the foundation for developing, evaluating and interpreting assessments. Explore concepts such as reliability, validity, norms, scoring and appropriate interpretation.
Reliability and validity are usually met as definitions to be reproduced in an examination. They are better met as questions you ask of any instrument before you trust it. What was this normed on, and do my participants resemble that group. What does this score vary with that it should not. How much of the difference between two people here is real. We work through construction, evaluation and interpretation in that spirit.
What this covers
- Reliability and validity as questions you ask, not terms you define.
- Norms examined for who they actually represent.
- Enough to evaluate an instrument before adopting it.

The evidence behind all of this — who you would speak to, and what we will not claim — sits on the Universities page, where it belongs to the whole audience rather than to one service.
