Wisconsin Card Sorting Test® (WCST)
The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), created by David A. Grant and Esta A. Berg, with a professional manual by Robert K. Heaton and colleagues, assesses perseveration and abstract thinking and is widely used as a measure of executive function, given its sensitivity to frontal lobe problems. It shows how well a person plans, searches in an organised way, uses feedback to change approach, keeps behaviour aimed at a goal and holds back impulsive responses, for ages 7 to 89. It is given individually in 20 to 30 minutes, and the kit contains the revised and expanded manual, 2 card decks and 50 record booklets.
