The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV), based on the work of David Wechsler, assesses the cognitive ability of young children aged 2 years 6 months to 7 years 7 months, with content revised in the light of current research and expert advice. It helps identify cognitive delay, intellectual disability, autism and giftedness, supports decisions on special services and school admission, and can show the effect of a brain injury on a child's thinking. Testing takes 30 to 45 minutes for the youngest children and 45 to 60 minutes from age 4, and the kit contains the administration, technical and interpretive manuals, 3 stimulus books, record forms for both age bands, response booklets, scoring keys, and the block, puzzle and zoo location sets.
