Symbolic Play Test
The Symbolic Play Test by Marianne Lowe and Anthony J. Costello is a standardised assessment for children aged 1 to 3, in which the child plays with miniature toys presented in a fixed order. Watching whether the child uses the toys meaningfully gives an objective sign of early concept formation and symbolic thinking, abilities that come before language and grow alongside it. Because it relies on play, it suits very young children, and it takes 10 to 15 minutes. The kit has the manual, the toys and 25 record forms.
