School Motivation and Learning Strategies Inventory (SMALSI) Child and Teen Combination Kit
The School Motivation and Learning Strategies Inventory (SMALSI), by Kathy Chatham Stroud and Cecil R. Reynolds, is a self-report inventory that measures the skills behind academic success, so that weaknesses can be addressed early instead of after repeated failure. It covers 10 areas: seven strengths, such as study, note-taking, reading, writing and test-taking strategies, organisation and time management, and three liabilities: low motivation, test anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. This combination kit contains both forms, a 147-item version for children and a 170-item version for teenagers, together covering ages 8 to 18, each with 25 test forms, scoring templates and 25 profile sheets, plus the manual, a handbook of strategies for academic success and an audio CD so that weak readers can listen to the items. It takes 20 to 30 minutes.
