The Preschool Language Assessment Instrument, Second Edition (PLAI-2), by Marion Blank, Susan A. Rose and Laura J. Berlin, shows how well children aged 3 to 5 cope with the language demands of the classroom, bringing together thinking, language and social use of language in exchanges with adults. It was normed on 463 children from 16 US states and suits teachers, speech-language clinicians and special educators. It takes about 30 minutes individually, and the kit contains the examiner's manual, a picture book and 25 record booklets each for 3-year-olds and for 4- and 5-year-olds, in a storage box.
