Multilingual Aphasia Examination, 3rd Ed.
The Multilingual Aphasia Examination, Third Edition (MAE), by Arthur L. Benton, Kerry deS. Hamsher and Abigail B. Sivan, is a fairly brief battery that shows whether aphasia is present, how severe it is and what form it takes, for ages 6 to 69. Its tests cover naming, repeating sentences and verbal association, understanding of speech, reading comprehension, and spelling aloud, in writing and with blocks, while articulation and fluency are rated and writing is judged from the spelling test. The manual adds norms for older people and data on how well each test separates groups, and the kit contains the manual, reading and visual stimulus cards, a set of tokens and letters, and 100 of each record form.
