The Miller Forensic Assessment of Symptoms Test (M-FAST), by Holly A. Miller, is a brief 25-item interview that screens adults for the likelihood that they are feigning psychiatric illness. Unlike most malingering measures, which focus on faked cognitive or neuropsychological deficits, it deals only with feigned psychiatric symptoms. Its seven scales draw on proven strategies, such as comparing reported with observed symptoms and checking for rare combinations, unusual hallucinations, extreme symptoms and suggestibility, and it takes 5 to 10 minutes. The kit contains the manual and 25 interview booklets.
