Inventory of Altered Self - Capacities
The Inventory of Altered Self-Capacities (IASC), by John Briere, is a brief measure of the difficulties in identity, emotional control and relationships often seen in adults aged 18 and over with personality problems or a history of serious childhood trauma. It helps pinpoint targets for treatment, anticipate problems that may arise in therapy, such as swinging between idealising and devaluing the therapist or fears of abandonment, and support diagnoses such as borderline personality disorder. Respondents rate how often each symptom has occurred over the past 6 months on seven 9-item scales, at a 6th-grade reading level, and norms come from 620 adults in the general population. It takes 10 to 15 minutes, and the kit includes the manual, 25 reusable item booklets, 50 answer sheets and 50 profile forms.
