The Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales, Second Edition (GATES-2), by James E. Gilliam and Olga Jerman, offer a quick way to identify gifted and talented students aged 5 to 18. Following current US federal definitions, it has 5 scales of 10 items each, covering creativity, artistic talent, leadership, academic skills and general intellectual ability. Its norms were gathered in 2013 and 2014 from a sample matched to the US population, and it takes 5 to 10 minutes. The kit contains the examiner's manual and 50 summary and response forms in a storage box.
