Feifer Assessment of Reading (FAR™)

The Feifer Assessment of Reading (FAR) examines reading and the processes behind it in order to pin down which subtype of dyslexia a student has: dysphonetic, surface, mixed, or a deficit in reading comprehension. Its 15 subtests take in phonological awareness, decoding, rapid naming, orthographic and morphological processing, word memory, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, and item-level error analysis gives a closer look at how the student reads. It serves for screening, progress monitoring within RTI, diagnosing a learning disability and designing targeted intervention, and a separate screening form flags children at risk. It is for ages 5 to 21, and testing takes 35 to 75 minutes by grade, or 15 to 20 minutes for the screener.
