Evaluation of Competency to Stand Trial- Revised (ECST™-R)

The Evaluation of Competency to Stand Trial–Revised (ECST-R), by Richard Rogers, Chad E. Tillbrook and Kenneth W. Sewell, is a semi-structured interview for judging whether an adult defendant is competent to stand trial. Its 18 competency items form three scales, covering the ability to consult with counsel and factual and rational understanding of courtroom proceedings, while 28 further items on five scales check for atypical presentation, such as feigned or exaggerated impairment. It takes 25 to 45 minutes, and the kit includes the manual, a binder with the interview booklet, 25 record forms and 25 profile/summary forms in a carrying case.
