Early Language Communication Instrument (ELCI)
Patti Hamaguchi's Early Language Communication Instrument (ELCI) is a rating scale on which the adults around a young child, such as parents, carers, teachers or daycare staff, record what they have seen of a young child's language, from 18 months to 5 years 11 months. A speech-language pathologist, psychologist or other professional then scores and interprets it, giving norms for expressive language, receptive language, and social communication and play. It is especially useful for children who cannot take part in direct testing or who behave differently in different settings; it takes about 15 minutes, and the kit contains the manual and 25 record forms.
