Differential Scales of Social Maladjustment and Emotional Disturbance (DSSMED)
The Differential Scales of Social Maladjustment and Emotional Disturbance (DSSMED), by David J. Ehrler, Ronnie L. McGhee, Carol G. Phillips and Elizabeth A. Allen, is a 46-item teacher rating scale that helps tell apart students aged 6 to 17 whose problems stem from social maladjustment from those with emotional disturbance. A teacher or school psychologist who has seen the student daily for at least four weeks rates each item, which takes about 10 minutes, and the results help flag at-risk students and guide decisions on their education. It was normed on 1,337 students, and the kit contains the examiner's manual, 25 summary and rating forms and 25 scoring overlays.
