The Detailed Assessment of Posttraumatic Stress (DAPS) by John Briere is a 104-item clinical measure of exposure to trauma and of posttraumatic stress in adults aged 18 to 91. It covers symptoms during and after a specific traumatic event, such as intrusive memories, avoidance and hyperarousal, along with related problems such as dissociation and substance misuse, and it suggests a provisional diagnosis of PTSD or acute stress disorder in far less time than a structured interview, to be confirmed clinically. It also records both current and lifetime trauma exposure.
