Detailed Assessment of Posttraumatic Stress (DAPS)

The Detailed Assessment of Posttraumatic Stress (DAPS) by John Briere is a 104-item clinical measure of exposure to trauma and of posttraumatic stress in adults aged 18 to 91. It covers symptoms during and after a specific traumatic event, such as intrusive memories, avoidance and hyperarousal, along with related problems such as dissociation and substance misuse, and it suggests a provisional diagnosis of PTSD or acute stress disorder in far less time than a structured interview, to be confirmed clinically. It also records both current and lifetime trauma exposure. It takes 20 to 30 minutes, plus 15 to 20 to score, and the kit contains the professional manual, 10 reusable item booklets, 50 hand-scorable answer sheets and 50 profile forms for men and women.
