The Clinical Assessment of Attention Deficit–Adult (CAT-A), by Bruce A. Bracken and Barbara S. Boatwright, is a 108-item self-report measure of attention-deficit symptoms in adults, with or without hyperactivity, closely aligned with current diagnostic criteria. Part 1 asks about the person's memories of their behaviour and feelings as a child, Part 2 about the same issues in adult life today, and each part, as well as the two combined, yields a Clinical Index. Items separate symptoms by context and by whether they are felt inwardly or seen in behaviour, and three built-in validity scales check for negative or positive impression and unusual responding. It takes 20 to 25 minutes, and the kit includes the manual, 25 rating forms and 25 score summary/profile forms.
