Child Abuse Potential Inventory (CAPI)

The Child Abuse Potential Inventory (CAPI), by Joel S. Milner, is a self-report screening instrument that helps child protective services workers assess the risk of physical child abuse when investigating reported cases. Its 160 items make up 10 scales: the main Abuse scale, which breaks down into factors such as distress, rigidity, unhappiness and problems with the child, the family and other people, and three validity scales that detect lying, random responding and inconsistency. It is completed by adults and takes 12 to 20 minutes, and the kit includes the manual, an interpretive manual, 10 inventory booklets, scoring sheets and a template set.
