Brief Cognitive Status Exam (BCSE)
The Brief Cognitive Status Exam (BCSE) helps evaluate overall cognitive functioning in adults aged 17 and over with dementia, mild intellectual disability or brain injury, or with suspected Alzheimer's disease. It covers seven areas, among them orientation, mental control, inhibitory control, incidental recall, verbal output, the sense of time, and planning with visual-perceptual processing, and its classifications are designed to separate levels of impaired performance rather than levels of normal ability. It takes 15 to 20 minutes, and the kit contains a scoring template, an administration and stimulus booklet and 25 record forms.
