Assessment of Language-Related Functional Activities(ALFA)
The Assessment of Language-Related Functional Activities (ALFA), by Kathleen A. Baines, Ann W. Martin and Heidi McMartin Heeringa, checks how well adults aged 16 to 95 manage everyday tasks that depend on language. Its 10 subtests have the patient actually carry out activities such as telling the time, counting money, using a calendar and a telephone, reading medicine labels and instructions, addressing an envelope and writing a message, and each is scored objectively. The tasks call for listening and speaking, reading and writing, and also for thinking and movement; testing takes from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and the kit contains the examiner's manual, a picture book, 25 record forms and a materials kit with tokens, a clock, a medicine chart and envelopes.
