ABDS: Adaptive Behavior Diagnostic Scale

The Adaptive Behavior Diagnostic Scale (ABDS) is a rating scale, completed through an interview, that establishes whether a person aged 2 to 21 has deficits in adaptive behaviour and how large they are. It is used when intellectual disability, autism, learning disability or a mental or behavioural health condition is known or suspected, and its scores fit the DSM-V and AAIDD definitions of intellectual disability. Fifty items in each of three domains cover conceptual skills such as language, reasoning and memory, social skills such as empathy and judgement, and practical skills such as personal care, managing money and organising work, and together they yield an Adaptive Behavior Index. It takes about 30 minutes, and the kit includes the manual, a reference card and 25 record booklets.
